Save this one for maternity leave

Your baby is finally here.

You have spent weeks getting to know those tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, little noises and the completely unpredictable cycle of feeds, naps and nappy changes.

And then one morning you find yourself thinking...

Okay. What can we actually DO today?

When your baby is only a few weeks old, you probably are not looking for soft play centres, playgrounds or action packed days out.

You want somewhere easy.

Somewhere you can take the pram.

Somewhere nobody is going to stare if your baby suddenly needs a feed.

And ideally, somewhere you can grab a coffee too.

The good news?

There are some beautiful things to do with a newborn right here in Ipswich and Brisbane, even when they are only 0 to 3 months old.

As a newborn photographer based in Springfield Lakes, I spend a lot of time chatting with new parents from Brisbane, Ipswich and surrounding areas, so I have put together a few ideas worth saving for those early newborn weeks.

1. Baby Rhyme Time at Ipswich Libraries

Baby Rhyme Time includes songs, rhymes and stories designed for babies from birth. Your little one may sleep through half of it, but it is still a lovely reason to get out of the house and meet other parents.
Sessions are available at several Ipswich Libraries, including Springfield Central.

Why we love it: Easy, relaxed and perfect for those early newborn weeks.

2. Take Your Baby to the Movies

Yes, you can take your newborn to the movies!
Event Cinemas Springfield at Orion Springfield Central offers special Bring Your Baby sessions, with dimmed lighting and lower movie volume for little ears.
Feed, cuddle or settle baby whenever you need to, without the usual pressure of keeping them completely quiet.
Why we love it: A fun little outing for Mum or Dad that baby can come along to too.

3. Grab a Coffee and Walk Robelle Domain

Sometimes that is all you need.
Robelle Domain in Springfield Central has beautiful walking paths, open spaces and plenty of spots to stop if baby wakes or needs a feed.
Stay for ten minutes or two hours. Whatever works that day.
Why we love it: No bookings, no timetable and no pressure.

4. Have a Slow Morning at Queens Park

Queens Park and the Ipswich Nature Centre make such an easy newborn outing.
Take a slow walk, wander through the Nature Centre, sit under the trees or grab a coffee nearby.
Your baby may sleep through the entire thing.
That still counts as a successful day out.
Why we love it: Easy, peaceful and pram friendly.

5. Visit GOMA With Your Baby

A newborn outing does not always have to be a baby activity.
Pop baby into the pram or carrier and wander through QAGOMA at South Bank while they sleep.
It is spacious, air conditioned and easy to combine with a river walk or coffee afterwards.
Why we love it: This one is for Mum, Dad and siblings too!

6. Try a Baby Sensory Class

If you are ready for something more structured, Baby Sensory classes can be a beautiful way to introduce your little one to sounds, movement, lights and textures.
And if they sleep through half the class?
Totally normal.
Why we love it: A lovely weekly outing and a great way to meet other parents.
Classes running at Grange, Wavell Heights & Paddington

7. Wander Through Brisbane Botanic Gardens

For a simple pram friendly outing, head to the City Botanic Gardens or Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot tha.
Find a shady path, take your time and stop whenever baby needs you.
No rush. No schedule.
Why we love it: Fresh air, beautiful surroundings and completely flexible.

8. Meet Another Mum for Coffee

It sounds simple, but sometimes this is exactly what you need.
Find somewhere with room for the prams, order the coffee and do not worry if most of your catch up is spent feeding, rocking or settling your babies.
Why we love it: A little adult conversation can do wonders during those early weeks.

9. Start a Weekly Pram Walk

Choose one morning each week and make it your little routine.
Walk around Springfield Lakes, Robelle Domain, South Bank, your local park or simply around the neighbourhood.
Even twenty minutes counts.
Why we love it: Simple, free and easy to fit around baby.

10. Capture How Tiny They Are Right Now

Those first few months change so quickly.
The tiny fingers, sleepy expressions, curled up legs and the way your baby fits perfectly against your chest will not stay this little for long.
At Buttons & Bows Photography, we photograph newborns and growing babies from our Springfield Lakes studio, welcoming families from Ipswich, Brisbane and surrounding areas.
And if your baby is already six, eight or twelve weeks old, you have not missed your chance.
This season is still worth remembering.

A Little Reminder for New Mums

You do not need a full calendar.

Sometimes a successful newborn day looks like:

Baby fed.

Mum fed.

Coffee acquired.

Short walk.

Home.

Perfect.

Save this list for one of those mornings when you are standing in the kitchen thinking...

“What should we do today?”

And send it to another Brisbane or Ipswich mum who might need a little inspiration too.
